NAMI is the nation's largest grassroots organization providing advocacy, education, support, and public awareness so that all individuals and families affected by mental illness can build better lives.
The mission of NAMI DC is to support and educate family, friends, the public, and persons with a diagnosis of serious mental illness, and to advocate for the development of services.
What We Achieved in 2015
Participated in AKA Mental Health Impact Day
Delivered 20+ In Our Own Voice Presentations and participated in local community heritage events
Engaged 5 summer interns in legislative advocacy, visits to core service agencies, and outreach events at Howard University Dept. of Psychiatry 2015 Summer School
Additionally, engaged interns in farewell reception for Dr. William Lawson, completed surveys about mental health policies in the workplace, and reviewed landmark decisions from the Supreme Court and more!

Facilitated weekly support group for 45+ weeks
Provided education, advocacy, and support via 4,000+ website visits
Distributed 500+ outreach materials
Reached more than 1,000 people during 20+ information sessions and trainings to federal agencies, law firms, and churches
Additional information sessions for mentors who support teen parents, foster parents, and medical students
Trained nearly 10 new facilitators for NAMI Signature Programs
